SHA-512/256 is a variant of the SHA-2 hash family which produces a 256-bit hash. The SHA-2 hash family was developed by the National Security Agency (NSA) and published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2001. The difference between SHA-512/256 and SHA-256 is that SHA-512/256 uses 64 byte words in its internal state and SHA-256 uses 32 byte words.
